Short Ton vs Long Ton
Short Ton is the ton unit commonly used in the United States. 1 short ton = 2,000 lb ≈ 907.185 kg. In the US, truck loads, coal shipments, and steel production are typically measured in short tons.
Long Ton is the traditional ton unit used in the UK and Commonwealth countries. 1 long ton = 2,240 lb ≈ 1,016.047 kg. Also known as the "Imperial Ton", it was historically used for ship tonnage calculations. The two differ by approximately 10.8%, so special care is needed in international trade to distinguish between them.

Imperial units (oz, lb, etc.) use internationally standardized conversion ratios (e.g., 1 lb = 0.45359237 kg). Decimal portions are capped at 6 significant decimal places, and excessively long decimals are automatically truncated. For extremely large or small values, there may be minor errors due to floating-point precision limitations, but this has virtually no practical impact.
