About This Tool
Photo to Pencil Sketch is a completely free, no-install online charcoal (sketch) effect tool that turns photos into black-and-white pencil / charcoal sketches through edge detection, with an adjustable stroke strength. It runs entirely in your browser and keeps your photos 100% private.
How to Use

Click "Add File" or drag images into the upload area; multiple images are supported.

On the right panel, drag the Pencil Stroke Strength slider; higher values produce thicker lines and stronger contrast.

Click "Download Single" to save the current image, or "Download All" to download a ZIP of all sketches.

Adjustable Parameters Explained
- Range: the Pencil Stroke Strength ranges from
0 to 50. - What the value means: higher values give thicker edge lines and stronger contrast; lower values keep lines finer and closer to the original outline.
- Recommended range: we suggest adjusting between
15 and 35based on the image; portraits and landscapes work especially well. - Batch consistency: once batch mode is on, the current strength applies to all images.

The output is black-and-white. The charcoal effect first converts the image to grayscale and then performs edge detection, producing black-and-white lines.
Not necessarily. Too high a strength makes lines too thick and loses detail; too low makes the effect barely visible. Adjust moderately for the best sketch feel.
Yes. After enabling the Batch Process switch, the current strength setting will apply to all images; click "Download All" to get the ZIP.
